WHERE WE TALK ABOUT OUR RESISTANCE TO WAKING UP, PART TWO

WHERE WE TALK ABOUT OUR RESISTANCE TO WAKING UP, PART TWO

Are you there?

Yes, we are here.

So, picking up where we left off last time, you were saying, basically, that our resistance to the awakening process arises out of a fear that, if we do somehow remember who we really are, we’ll lose touch with who we THINK we are, with our personality self. Even after a week of thinking about this, it’s still a lot to consider.

And yet it is so. How could it be otherwise? Your primary purpose in life, the reason behind your journey to the Earth plane, is to live a conscious, spiritual life within a physical form while sharing your loving, light-bearing nature with those around you, all with the intention of assisting in the growth and expansion of All That Is. Given that most if not all human persons have come to identify themselves with a set of created forms – the body, the ego and its belief systems, everything that exists around you in the external – it only makes sense that you would see any effort to shift your identification to something that you have forgotten, to something that you do NOT see as yourself, that this effort would stir up fear, fear of the loss of the self that you know.

Can you give us an example how a fear that we might experience on a day-to-day basis might resonate back to a fear of losing a sense of, an identification with, who we think we are?

You have decided that you would like to buy yourself a new motor vehicle. You realize that before you can make this purchase, you will need to acquire some additional funds, so you begin to work overtime hours, you take to buying the occasional lottery ticket, you even put out feelers to those from whom you might borrow the sum that you need. No matter how hard you try to raise the necessary funds, however, after many months, you still come up short-handed. Clearly, something is standing in your way, a thought, a long-held belief, a mindset that prevents you from attracting that which you desire. This mindset could take many different forms, depending on your history and the makeup of your personality, but let us say, for the sake of this example, that you hold an unconscious belief that you do not, for whatever reason, deserve to have a new car, and consequently do not deserve to experience the happiness, the joy and the feeling of prosperity that comes along with it. This unconscious, fear-based belief acts as resistance against your experience of happiness, joy, and prosperity, acts as resistance against the idea that you are a creator of your own experience, acts as resistance against your remembering that you ARE happiness, that you ARE joy, that you ARE prosperity. Do you see? When you deny yourself anything, and we mean ANYTHING, that interferes with your pursuit of happiness, or indeed with any experience of the high-vibrational feelings and emotions that naturally flow from an open connection to Source, including, in this case, the necessary funds to purchase an automobile, in these moments you resist identifying with who you really are. Everything, everything, everything is a part of the same dynamic. Each experience that you create for yourself, every thought that you think, every emotion that you feel, every action that you take, each of these experiences holds within itself an opportunity for you to either shift your identification to who you really are, to pure, light-bearing consciousness, or to resist your true nature by continuing to identify with your old beliefs, your old programming, your old self.

I think what happens a lot of the time, when we’re trying to manage the fear and resistance that’s triggered by our attempts to awaken and shift our identification, is that we back off. As I said before, that’s what often happens to me. I back off, give up and eventually stop doing the work altogether in part to ease the feelings of resistance. I know some people who will not even begin to do any kind of transformational work because they sense instinctively that it will stir up fears that they’d rather not deal with.

And this is just the type of situation that your ego is drawn to, for it allows your ego personality to remain in control. If an individual were to fully awaken to the truth of who they really are, this would, in turn, weaken if not eliminate their identification with the ego, thereby threatening the ego’s very existence. This risk of extinction, from the ego’s point of view, cannot be tolerated and will be resisted at all costs

Given the emotional challenges that are often triggered by the awakening process, could you argue that the ego is actually attempting to protect us from all of that when it resists a shift in how we identify?

Within this dynamic, the ego acts not from a loving, protective impulse, but from a position of fear. This role of protector, of keeping you safe from the consequences of the awakening process, is merely an attempt on the part of your ego to hide the truth behind the resistance, which is that it feels monumentally threatened. The only part of yourself that the ego is interested in protecting is itself. And so, the ego says: “Don’t bother with all of that spiritual stuff. Life is so much easier without all of the difficulties that arise when you try to expand your awareness. Let’s just stay as we are and leave the rest of it to the New Agers and the other kooks.”

It’s easy to see how someone would be reluctant to tackle this kind of transformational work if they thought it was going to cause them problems or difficulties. A person can quickly become overwhelmed by the sheer scope of what we’ve undertaken on this physical journey. Here we are, doing our best to navigate this world of contrasts, to deal with love and fear and everything in between, while at the same time working to awaken to the truth of who we really are. It’s a lot to deal with sometimes. One day it seems like the work is all about whether or not we can remain mindful and present for an extended period of time. Another day it may seem that it’s all about gratitude and appreciation and that if we can simply summon up more on these qualities, we will feel more at ease in our lives, happier, more peaceful, more loving. And yet on still another day, it may seem that it’s all about opening our hearts more to allow ourselves to receive those gifts of the Universe that we so greatly desire. I understand that the work is essentially about ALL of those things, and much, much more, but it’s hard to decide what’s most important, where we should focus our attention. It can all be a little overwhelming. Most of the time, we’re trying to use our analytical minds, our brains, to “figure it all out,” which is perhaps not the best approach. But it’s the one that feels most familiar to us, our default strategy, the one we use out of habit when we are confronted by what we think of as a problem, when we can’t think of anything else to do. And yet, this approach can only get us so far. When we continue to grasp for truth at the level of the mind only, we ignore what our psychic senses are telling us and see only an enormous, jumbled jigsaw puzzle that we’re trying to piece together without a clear picture of where we’re headed, without being sure that we even have all the pieces. That alone creates an enormous amount of resistance to the task we’ve set for ourselves, because who wants to try and solve a puzzle when your ego mind is telling you that you might not have all of the pieces.

We can assure you that you have all of the pieces, everything that you need to remember who you really are and why you have come. In addition, you have all of the help that you need, the entire Universe is at your disposal, all that is necessary for you to proceed with the work that you came here to do. And yes, we understand that your analytical, judgmental mind can sometimes be your own worst enemy when it comes to making choices about where you would like to focus your attention. But we must also say to you that it is important in such moments, when your resistance rises up and you begin to feel overwhelmed by all that this physical journey has to offer you, that you be easy with yourself and take some to relax and remove your awareness from what you might see as the “problem” of your spiritual journey. This is perhaps the greatest obstacle that you create for yourselves, when you approach the process of remembering as if it were, as you say, an enormous, jumbled jigsaw puzzle. The process of spiritual awakening, the process of remembering who you really are and why you have come, is not, despite appearances to the contrary, a puzzle or a problem that you need to try to “figure out” or solve. It is not a puzzle. It is not a problem. It is a journey. An unfolding path. Think of yourself sitting in a small boat, a raft, a canoe, floating down a gently rolling river which moves ever forward. While it is certainly true that in floating down a river you might encounter a number of challenges along the way – shallow riverbeds, shifting currents, rocks and boulders, rapids, waterfalls – still, the momentum of the river always moves forward. It is your job to trust that the river, and your life, will always move forward, perhaps not always smoothly, but forward nonetheless. For you, the goal is to let go of the need to interfere too much, of the need to figure it all out, and simply allow your boat, and yourself, to take you where you wish to go. We guarantee that your life will ALWAYS lead you where you have intended to go. Trust in the path, trust in yourself, trust in the love and protection of All That Is. And with trust, with appreciation for who you are and what you have to offer the Universe, your resistance will fade and your journey will proceed with relative ease.

I think we’ll stop there for today, although I don’t think we’re done quite yet with our discussion on resistance. I think I’d like to have at least one more conversation on this topic.

We would enjoy exploring this topic of resistance for as long as you wish. Until next time then.

Thank you all.
