WHERE WE TALK ABOUT LIFE PURPOSE, PART 2
Are you there?
Yes, we are here.
Last time, we were talking about life purpose and it was clear that we were not going to be able to cover the topic in just one posting, so we stopped and agreed to pick things up again later. To remind our readers, I had gotten to a point in our conversation where I admitted to struggling a bit with the idea of my purpose in life now that I am no longer working full time. That if there’s nothing in particular that I HAVE to do, who am I then? What is my role?
Certainly, it has occurred to you that what you are doing right now – talking with us, channeling and transcribing our conversations, posting them on a web site so that anyone who wants to take advantage of our guidance has the opportunity to do so – certainly it has occurred to you that this gives your life purpose, that this gives you a role to play in the physical world. After all, you have invested a great deal of time and energy to make this happen, have you not? This was not something that happened by magic. This blog was co-created by you and by us through our unified intention. All for a very specific reason – to help yourself and others to find their way to a place of remembrance. To us, this seems like a very important, a very vital purpose and role to have in life.
And yet for some reason it doesn’t seem to resonate with me in that way, even after a year of working on the blog with all of you. Instead, I’m still holding on to the structure and the role that my old job provided, almost by default.
The confusion and indecision that you are experiencing now, the lack of trust in your own abilities and your own journey, all of this stems from your resistance to the work that you are doing with us. That is why you have found writing the blog sometimes difficult in the past few months. It has often been a strain for you to create content, has it not?
Yes, it has. And not because I can’t connect with you, but because I’ve come to question more and more why I’m doing it in the first place.
That is due to your reluctance in taking on the role of earthly guide, the role of spiritual teacher. You do not think that you are worthy of this type of mission, of helping others in this way.
But it doesn’t seem as if many people are even reading this blog. Just a handful of friends apparently. That makes it hard to stay committed and keep going.
The real reason that you find it so difficult at times has nothing to do with how many individuals are or are not reading our postings. As we have said before, those who will benefit from these words will find their way to them. No, the real reason is that you do not believe that you are capable of what you see as a lofty purpose in life, that of being a spiritual teacher, so you downplay it, you dismiss it, you find excuses not to follow through, you tell yourself that because the blog generates no income, no monetary remuneration like the jobs that you have had in the past, then it cannot have much purpose or much value in your life, and so you complain to yourself that since no one is reading what you are writing anyway, what’s the point? As a result, you allow your vibration to drop. All of these excuses, these discouraging thoughts that you are experiencing, are just deflections, attempts on the part of your ego to resist your taking on this new role. These deflections, these excuses, are no more accurate than if you were to say to yourself that the moon is made of green cheese. They are simply not true.
But what is behind this reluctance I feel, this belief that I don’t deserve to take on the role of a spiritual teacher?
Fear and resistance. You are afraid of change, of seeing yourself in a new light, so you try to distract yourself by focusing on things that you think you should be doing to increase the readership of our blog. That is the old way of looking at yourself and your job responsibilities and you are afraid to let that go, even though it causes you discomfort. We are not saying that increasing the readership of our blog is a bad thing. Far from it. What we are saying is that when you feel down or overwhelmed or lost as to what your purpose in life is and how the blog fits into it, it is because, out of fear, you are still holding tightly to the old structural model that was in place when you were working full time, the idea that if you work hard at something, you should be acknowledged for it and you should be paid for it. Otherwise, the work has no value in your mind. You have grown accustomed to seeing things in that way. Even though your life has changed quite a bit since you stopped working, these old ideas still feel safe and natural to you, comforting almost, and you do not want to let them go
It makes sense to me when you say it, but it’s hard for me to see. Even harder to change those thoughts into something more positive, something more encouraging, more supportive. It’s clear that I’m still trying to define my life as a retiree along the lines of the image I held of myself as a full-time wage earner, almost out of habit, even though I no longer want or need to do that. That is why I do not feel completely free.
You need to remind yourself that the role you play in life is your choice and yours alone. No one else’s. It is not something that should be defined by others and certainly not by your own past habits. You are free to do and to be anything that you choose. That includes taking on the role of spiritual teacher.
I understand. But how do I move past all of the fear and resistance that is standing in the way?
By affirming for yourself that the work that you are doing right here, right now – helping others to remember who they really are and why they have come – that this is where your true purpose now lies. This is it, do you not see? You tell yourself that you are just a transcriber or a clerk keeping a record of events, roles similar to ones that you have played in the past. But that, too, is just a deflection. We can assure you that you are a full partner in this venture, that your contribution to our conversations is every bit as vital and important as ours. If you can just allow yourself to release your fear and resistance, to let go of whatever old beliefs you still hold about work, and focus your attention on how this unique form of communication and sharing that we have created together makes you feel, that it makes you feel good, we guarantee that you will find your way to embracing your true-life purpose.
I get what you are saying, but how can I embrace a purpose like this when I don’t even feel like I deserve to have such a purpose? Do you see the problem? And don’t tell me that this is the work I came here to do.
But this IS the work that you came here to do.
I asked you not to tell me that.
We understand. But that is part of our agreement with you, as you very well know, to remind you of who you are and why you have come. And sometimes that means guiding you in the direction of your own resistance. That is the only way to face it and ultimately release it.
Again, it all boils down to resistance, doesn’t it? So much fear and resistance standing in the way of our enjoyment of life.
Granted, resistance to the experience of your true self, to the experience of love and joy and peace, remains the greatest challenge for those on the human journey of remembrance. But you are more in touch with your own happiness than you realize, if you would only take a moment and allow yourself to believe that what you were taught about your own sense of worthiness is not true and that you can be happy whenever you want. We wish that we could do this for you, but as we have just said, this is the work…
I know. I know. This is the work that I came here to do. To be honest, if I do as you suggest and take a moment to pause and reflect, I have to admit that when we are talking in this way and I am in the process of channeling and transcribing our conversations, knowing that our thoughts and ideas will be shared with others, I do actually feel good. I feel connected and I feel energized.
And that is where you must keep your attention because good feelings are a clear sign that you are on the right path. Remember – what you focus on increases. So, when we are in conversation and you are channeling and transcribing and you realize that this activity makes you feels good, stay with that feeling, hold onto it and ground in within your energy field. Even if you do not feel completely joyful in every single moment, remind yourself that the possibility, the potential is always there. It just needs to be acknowledged and nurtured by you.
This has been a lot to process.
We understand. So, take your time and allow these thoughts to take hold. In the meantime, enjoy yourself, enjoy your life, enjoy your freedom! Finding joy in your life is as much a part of the work that you are doing right now as these conversations that we share with others. And when we say enjoy, we mean ENJOY!, without that constant voice inside of your head that tells you that you do not deserve to enjoy yourself, that you should be doing something worthwhile, something important, something that will bring you income. As you say, at this point there is nothing that you HAVE to do and nowhere that you HAVE to be, so take a moment or two to appreciate the gifts that your freedom from full-time work has afforded you – more time to enjoy those things in life that bring you pleasure, more time to explore the city that you love, more time to loaf, to study, to read, and above all, more time to spend in conversation with all of us. That alone is worth the price of your so-called retirement, do you not agree?
I do. Until next time then.
Until next time.
Thank you all.
