WHERE WE DISCUSS THE NEWS MEDIA, PART TWO

WHERE WE DISCUSS THE NEWS MEDIA, PART TWO

Are you there?

Yes, we are here.

Today, I’d like to pick up our previous conversation where we left off, when you suggested that even though I often feel angry or frustrated when reading the news of the world, this behavior is, in part, my way of exploring thoughts and feelings of a low-frequency with the intention of using the experience of contrast to move forward in the awakening process.

Indeed.

So, with that idea in mind, I decided, rather than trying to avoid the news completely, something I probably couldn’t sustain for very long anyway, that I’d focus instead on being more aware of the thoughts and feelings I experience when I’m reading the news. One thing I discovered in doing this, aside from the fact that most of my thoughts were fear-based, is that when I stopped reading, those thoughts and the feelings they triggered continued to flow as long as I kept my attention on them. I’d try to shift my focus to something else, but it was very challenging if the story I was reading stirred up a lot of strong, low-frequency emotions. When that happened, all I really wanted to do was return to the story I was reading or search for others just like it. As I said in our last conversation, it’s at that point that my behavior starts to feel like an addiction. With some practice, though, I realized that if I could just quiet myself and sit with my thoughts and feelings and observe them from a detached, non-judgmental place, eventually the thoughts would begin to break apart slowly and fade away, taking the emotional energy with them. That didn’t mean they might not pop right back as soon as I realized that they had dissipated, but when that happened, I did my best to remind myself that this was yet another opportunity for me to silently, unconditionally observe how my mind works.

We realize that this is a challenge for you, as it would be for any human person, to simply observe your low-frequency thoughts and emotions while remaining centered and grounded within your true self, but it is a challenge well worth facing, for by remaining detached, you foster inner calm and stillness, allowing yourself to access more freely your own light, your own creative power. As we have said many times before, no one can create within your life unless you allow them to do so, and this is a part of the fear underlying your experience of the news and the way in which it is presented, is it not? That those who use opinion to shape the news to their advantage will gain more power than you and as a result, influence the direction of your life by the decisions that they will make from their position of power.

You’re absolutely right. I do hold onto the fear that my life will be adversely affected by the way the news is shaped, the way it’s manipulated by those who deliver it. All things considered, maybe it would serve me better to work a little harder at staying away from the news altogether. What do you think?

Let us just say, that while abstaining from exposure to the news may or may not improve your emotional balance overall, no one expects you to live a cloistered life as would a monk, least of all us. While a life completely and utterly detached from all that is occurring in the external world is a choice that some will make because it suits them and aligns with their purpose and intent, we do not believe that this is a choice that will serve you well, at least not at this stage in your awakening process. Your path at the moment is one of engagement, not of isolation. We would instead recommend that you continue to strive to be more conscious, more aware, of the dynamics behind the way in which news is reported while at the same time remaining sensitive to what you are feeling while you are doing so.

How can I do that?

You might begin by reminding yourself that most human persons continue to abide in a state of amnesia and as such, are still completely asleep to who they really are. This includes the media. We do not mean this as a criticism. It is simply a fact. As a consequence, the perspective from which the media as a whole conveys the news sits within a very narrow, highly-limiting collective belief system, one that strongly influences what the media allows itself to see, what it has been trained to see and what it is permitted to report. Intense economic pressures also play a key role in the choice of news to be presented and how that news is conveyed. This is why an overwhelming portion of the news that is reported by the media on a daily basis is what you might consider “bad” news, in some measure because it is assumed that this is what most of the population wishes to hear and consequently the one which will generate the most substantial and most reliable source of income. Do you see? This is the situation that exists at your present-point in time, and as always, you must work with what you have, with what is right in front of you. It is doubtful that the manner and tenor in which the media executes its responsibilities are liable to change anytime soon, and even then, it would require a massive shift in group consciousness. To maintain your own sense of balance and groundedness in this type of situation, you will need to examine most carefully your own impulses and make your choices accordingly. It is up to you. If you do not implement a shift in your own perspective, if you do not prioritize your own awakening process, you will continue to make the same type of choices over and over again until you finally grow tired of the way those choices make you feel.

What else can I do to deepen my awareness and understanding in this kind of situation?

Accept the fact, as difficult as it may be to do, that when it comes to opinion, everyone has the right to form their own and is entitled to do with it as they choose. Your job is to allow that to happen without triggering your own fears. This is where the crux of the issue lies for you. If these opinions that you expose yourself to did not trigger your fear, you would have no issues at all. You would read these news items to stay informed about what is going on in the world around you and at the same time you would remain detached, calm and objective.

Is that even possible?

Of course it is possible. Anything is possible. What is important for you to bear in mind is that everyone has the freedom to choose for themselves which path they prefer to undertake. Pushing against someone else’s agenda, someone else’s opinion, generally does not make you feel good and only strengthens that which you push against. Yes, you may win an argument here and there, but ultimately, not much will change. So, rather than focusing on that with which you disagree, focus on that which you want, that which is important to you, and leave others to focus on that which is important to them. It takes courage to hold a position such as this, as it may often invite accusations of laziness, cowardice or selfishness, but we can assure you, it takes a great deal of fortitude to honor your own vibration and work to effect change from the inside out rather than battling what you see in the external. Does this make sense to you?

Yes, it makes sense.

As it stands, you cannot fully rely on anything in the external, especially the news of the world, to make you feel good on a consistent basis because, as we have pointed out, your feelings are actually based on what you THINK about what is happening in the external. If you want to change the way that you feel about anything, you must first change the way you think about yourself and what you are experiencing. This is why gauging your emotional choices solely on what others do or say is simply not a reliable path towards awakening. It is akin to rolling the dice with your emotions. In the case of the news media, it means relinquishing your personal power to individuals whom you do not know at all and have never even met. Consider that.

You certainly make a good point. We just can’t escape the fact that, in the end, it’s really up to us to make the effort towards affecting change in our lives.

Indeed. This is why you must work to define your world for yourself rather than allowing others to do it for you. Are you not tired of other individuals shaping and defining your experience? You have much more freedom, much more leeway than you realize in deciding how you would like to create the environment in which you live, but this requires moving past the boundaries of cultural conformity, acknowledging your own creative powers and then exercising those powers to redefine what it possible for you. Can you live a reasonable life at peace with all that you see around you in the world of politics, in the world of the media, in the world of public opinion? Indeed, you can. What is stopping you then? Your own habits, your own resistance, your own fear, your own outdated image of yourself and how you function in the world around you. Real peace comes from accepting that you are your own person, that no one sets the rules for you, that you are free, just like everyone else. This is an important point to remember. By respecting the freedom of others, you honor your own. There is no right way, no wrong way, only freely chosen experience designed to guide all of you back to who you really are, back to the energy of Source.

Is there anything else you’d like to add before we finish?

At the moment, your country is experiencing a release of deeply-buried, outmoded belief systems that no longer serve the growth and evolution of the human race, and that, in turn, is reflected in the news with which you choose to interact. As this process of releasing unfolds, an enormous amount of repressed, resistant energy held by those who do not desire this type of change will be ignited. This resistance is what has created the conflicts that your country and the rest of your planet are currently experiencing. Rest assured, however, that despite the challenges the force of this resistance may unleash, there is only one way for this energy to flow and that is forward, toward a state of healing and growth. It is inevitable.

I think we will stop there for today. This has been a very illuminating conversation.

We agree. Until next time then.

Thank you all.
