WHERE WE TALK ABOUT EXPECTATION

Are you there?

Yes, we are here.

Last time, we spoke about desire and how it fuels the creation of our experiences on the physical plane. Today, I’d like to focus on our expectations regarding what we want to manifest.

Assuming that your desire is strong and constant, your expectations of success in manifesting what you want depend on your belief system, on what you believe is possible in a given situation. If your expectations exceed what you actually believe is possible, you may find yourself disappointed by what you eventually manifest. On the other hand, if you have little or no expectation in manifesting what you want, you may give up before you start and end up taking no action at all. A typical “why bother?” scenario. In some cases, you may actually be unaware of your own low expectations, or choose to ignore them, in which case you might continue to act on your desire, but experience only stubborn roadblocks and persistent frustration. It all depends on your belief system and how those beliefs define your expectations regarding what you want to manifest. Let us take a relatively common circumstance. You decide that you would like a raise from your current employer.

The desire for a raise may be a fairly common occurrence, but because it involves money, it is not a simple proposition at all.

That is why we have chosen it. We want to illustrate to you the sometime complex nature of manifestation and how it can be affected by desire and expectation.

Yes, of course. Please continue.

So, you want a raise. You have been working in your job for several years and you have never received more than a small increase in your salary. You would like to buy a home, or get married, or have a child, and you would like to have more money from your employer to help facilitate these choices. In this instance, your desire is very strong. However, your employer has been notoriously stingy in the past when it comes to requests for salary increases from both you and your co-workers. As a result, your expectation is low, lower than your desire, which make a successful manifestation difficult.

That sounds like a very common situation, one that almost every employee can identify with.

Another reason we chose this as an example.

So, what do we do in a situation like this?

Ideally, you want to adjust your expectations to keep them in balance with your desire. You can best do this by gauging your belief system around what you think is possible and what you think is not. In other words, what are the chances for success and why? That does not mean that you must dial down your expectations. You want to examine everything that is going on inside of your mind related to the issue at hand and keep your expectation in alignment with your desire for success. Once some balance has been achieved, that is when you can take action.

But how would we achieve balance in this type of situation where the boss’ past behavior seems to indicate that no raise is forthcoming?

You need to tell yourself a different story. And you can do that by adjusting your thoughts around the situation.

OK. And how would we go about doing that?

You could start by visualizing a meeting with your boss that ends in your request for a raise being granted. You may experience some resistance to this idea because your expectation of a raise is low, but that is to be expected. As you know, your mind, your ego, will always try to interfere if it is threatened, and your ability to manifest what you desire in a conscious and easy manner is certainly a threat. What the ego desires is drama and struggle and confusion. But the time has come for you to take back your own power from the ego. To weaken its grip over your creative process. The trick is to focus on what you want and ignore all the rest of it.

That sounds simple, but we all know it’s not. The ego can be very resistant to any kind of change, especially when it involves entrenched belief systems.

Changing long-held thoughts on an issue, especially one that involves money, can be difficult, but it is not impossible. As with all attempts at change, it takes practice. And there are other tools you can use as well – positive affirmations to bolster your confidence, role playing with a friend to help raise your expectations, writing out a scenario that describes a successful outcome, and meditation, always, to keep you calm and focused.

Those all sound like good suggestions.

Remember that your goal in using each of these tools is to help raise or lower your expectations of success to keep them aligned with your desire. In a real sense, it is all in your head. Your mind is telling you one thing and your heart, your desire, is urging you towards another. Your job is to keep everything in balance and allow the manifestation to unfold. Take action only when you feel that balance has been achieved. Above all, remember that you are a creator. Whatever the result, you are the one who has brought it about. So, use your tools, keep your focus on your desires and allow that energy to permeate your field. The more you use the force of your desire to create, the closer you come to experiencing who you really are.

I think we’ll stop there for today.

One more thing before we go. Always remember that you have incarnated on the physical plane to experience yourself as you truly are in human form. Since you are a creator, that involves engaging your desire through acts of creation. That is what you are here to explore and experience, and by doing so, you will interact with the highest parts of yourself. That is what you need to remember. To bring your highest self into as many interactions as you can remember to do. That is your goal. Until next time.

Thank you all.
